Giveaway: 2 year anniversary of "Diary of a Narcissistic Bloodsucker"

Thanks so much everyone for participating. I picked two names to receive the free downloads: cfisher and sean and anna. Send me your email addresses and I'll email you the downloads of "Diary."

Damn. I missed the actual anniversary date, but it's the thought, right? Two years ago (August 13, 2006), the very first short story I ever sold became available for purchase. I was especially happy to sell "Diary," because it was a bizarre little story -- one that didn't easily fit into any particular category. (Talk about foreshadowing -- as if anything I write fits into any particular category.) I'd written it for possible inclusion in an anthology (the anthology never happened), and I thought it was strange and amusing. "Diary" is the first-person narrative of a very self-absorbed female vampire living in my home town (Boulder, CO). I classify it as: vampire humor/satire.

In honor of the 2 year anniversary, I'm giving away a copy or two of "Diary" (pdf) to someone who leaves a comment, answering the burning question: "What unique characteristic would a Rocky Mountain vampire possess?"

Winners chosen on Sunday evening, August 24.

"Diary" can be purchased here:

Good one Pam. Why am I tempted to say he'd have to be hard? Bad, Bad Dawn.

I'd have to say he should be resistant to ticks.

I'd say the vampire would have a super-strong psychic ability to convince Boulder's civic leaders to bring back the Mall Crawl so they can have a wide array of vittles to choose from.

Hi Lynda! So this was the first short story you sold, and to TWRP? That's wonderful! I just sold my first to TWRP, and it's releasing this Friday, August 22. TWRP is a great place to be.

To answer your question: Because of the thin air in Colorado due to its altitude, I'd say a Rocky Mountain vampire would have the ability to to draw oxygen as well as blood when he feeds -- more than what's available in the blood itself, but not enough to harm the person he's feeding from.

I'd say that a Rocky Mountain vampire would need to be immune to the cold. I'd also think said vampire would need to be cool with isolation because I'm picturing cabin in the mountain without any neighbors nearby... for privacy.

Hi, PamK: Thanks for commenting. You're right about the stamina!

Dawnm: You're so naughty. LOL. Thanks for dropping by.

Zetta: LOL! Yes. The Mall Crawl used to be quite an event. Halloween mayhem! Just perfect for a vampire buffet.

Hi, Helen! Yes. I've enjoyed my association with TWRP. They're a good group of folks. I'm glad you are working with them! You'll like it.

Dear Sean and Anna: You're right about the isolation. I suspect a vampire would use the cabin to store his "empties." grin.

Congrats on your anniversary.

I think this vampire should be able to restrain himself for his hunger witht all the wildlife living in the area. I seemed to have used up all my creativeness yesterday, lol.

I thought of another cool skill for a mountain vamp- he should be able to communicate with the wildlife. They could act as a built in alarm for intruders, or help lure people close to the vamp's lair.
